The Birthstone Jewelry Gift Guide

The written history of birthstones is scant, but it’s believed they were first mentioned by the historian Josephus, who thought there was a connection between the 12 colors of Aaron’s breastplate, the 12 months of the year and the 12 zodiac signs. Birthstones were popularized in the 18th century, but no one could agree on which stones were associated with which months until the Jewelry Industry Council stepped in to standardize the list that we still use today:

January - garnet
February - amethyst
March - aquamarine
April - diamond
May - emerald
June - pearl or moonstone
July - ruby
August - peridot
September - sapphire
October - opal
November - topaz
December - tanzanite

We get a lot of questions about which of our pieces contain birthstones, so we've whipped up a guide for you:

January - Garnet

April - Diamond

May - Emerald

June - Pearl

July - Ruby

September - Sapphire

October - Opal
