Athena, Goddess of Wisdom and Courage
The king of the Olympian Gods, Zeus, cheated on his wife Hera with the nymph Metis, known for her intelligence and wisdom. Fearing that Hera would find out, he tricked Metis into turning herself into a fly, and then he ate her (gods are weird like that), not knowing that she had already conceived a child. Months later, Zeus experienced the worst headache of his life and begged the blacksmith god, Hephaestus, to split open his head with an axe. Athena then sprung from Zeus's head, fully grown and wearing her trademark armor and plumed helm.
As Zeus's favorite child, she was the only one trusted to carry his mighty thunderbolt and wield it against gods and mortals. She is often referred to as "steely-eyed Athena" in Homer's Odyssey because of her flashing silver gaze. Athens was named for her, and the Parthenon still stands in her honor.
In this pendant, Athena wears her Corinthian plumed helm, ready for battle. A natural blue sapphire, symbolizing wisdom, shines from a hand-drawn starburst.
Athena is the perfect talisman to wear into battle - whether it's in a meeting or with your mother in law.
